Abstract

The aim of this article is to analyze the National Program for Education in Agrarian Reform (PRONERA) as a public policy for Rural Education built with peasant social movements and Universities. It then brings the experience of a program carried out at the State University Vale do Acaraú, in Sobral/Ceará, which took place through a Monday Course in the Areas of Human and Social Sciences: (Degree in Geography; Degree in History); with the aim of qualifying male and female teachers and other education professionals with initial training in pedagogy or in another degree who were living in areas of Agrarian Reform Settlements. This experience led us to conclude that Rural Education is not an isolated act, but a collective one, and its social impact had a great reach, not only for the men and women farmers who took the courses, but for the young people who live in the areas of Agrarian Reform Settlement, as they will have other possibilities to participate in the creation of conditions for staying in the countryside with a dignified life.
