Abstract

Understanding the teaching of Geography concerning themes related to territorial dimensions and their ethnic and racial characteristics is essential, while also highlighting the issues associated with the factors present in different territorialities. Based on this, the present text aims to discuss the implementation of Law N° 11.645/2008 through educational practices aligned with the teaching of Geography in Basic Education. This law made the study of Indigenous and Afro-Brazilian History and Culture mandatory in Elementary and High School education institutions. In this regard, the article is structured as follows: initially, we will address Law N° 11.645/2008, the teaching of Geography, and the City to understand space and ethnic-racial relations. Subsequently, we will discuss geographical practices focused on ethnic-racial relations and the debate on the city within the scope of Basic Education. For this purpose, bibliographic studies were conducted through a literature review on the theme of ethnic-racial relations in the teaching of Geography and the City. In this way, we aim to contribute to the development of geographical practices in Basic Education by understanding how Anti-Racist Geographical Education can help in comprehending the issues and challenges involved.
