Abstract

Field practice in Geography teaching plays an important role in expanding human awareness about environmental problems, highlighting their importance for students in the context of school, but above all in life. This work analyzes the results of research carried out by students at Escola Estadual Professor Raimundo Silvino da Costa-EEPRSC, which culminated in the production of bougainvillea seedlings by cuttings. 45 students participated, taking as a starting point theoretical discussions about urban afforestation and quality of life in geography classes. In April 2020, in the field phase, 50 cuttings were packed in 30 x 12 cm plastic packaging, containing sand, clay and manure. Viability was 72%. The work achieved the goal of finding a strategy for producing plant seedlings and creating a protocol for public use.  In the urban area of ​​the municipality, before the research, 14 plants were registered. Two years later, 150. The environment department, with access to the protocol, until 2023, around 400 seedlings were produced, for donation to the population. The students involved learned important fundamentals used in scientific research, including implementing the experiment, evaluating the results, presenting it to the school community and university students.
