Abstract

This article intends to contextualize the sanitary problem of obesity in the State of Tocantins in the perspective of the Geography of Health, approaching it from the Health Regions established by the State Department of Health of Tocantins. The aim is to understand the territorial dynamics of the central-north region of Brazil from the perspective of the population's metabolic health, focusing on the presentation and analysis of how overweight and obesity are distributed in Tocantins. This epidemiological study is characterized as descriptive, analytical, cross-sectional, which used secondary data, in the public domain of the Ministry of Health, referring to the Research of the Food and Nutrition Surveillance System - SISVAN through the analysis of public reports on the nutritional status of Brazilians from 2019 to 2021, as well as information from the Surveillance of Risk and Protection Factors for Chronic Diseases by Telephone Survey, VIGITEL in the period from 2010 to 2019. To understand the health problem in the context of Geography, the historical method was used.
