Abstract

This article presents the cross-border relations between Brazil and French Guiana, focusing on sustainable forest management. Based on field visits conducted in 2023 and 2024, the study discusses the social and environmental dynamics shaping interactions between the twin cities of Oiapoque (Brazil) and Saint George de l’Oiapock (France). Forest management is addressed as a strategic practice to mitigate environmental impacts in the Amazon region, which faces pressures from both development and conservation. The text also reflects on the implications of COP 30, a crucial event in the international climate agenda. The challenges and opportunities of cross-border trade, especially of forest products, and the migratory tensions affecting the integration between the two territories are analyzed. The article concludes by emphasizing the importance of cooperation between Brazil and France for the development of sustainable borders, promoting environmental protection and local economic growth.
