Abstract

The search for understanding the role played by environmental education in studies published in Ceará Geography journals stimulated the production of this article. Environmental education had two distinct orientations that were mostly widespread, these being the traditional and the critical. Thus, it was sought to elucidate the trend replicated in the state of Ceará between 2011 and 2023, through textual analysis applied to the abstracts of articles published in portuguese, with free access and that contained the term "environmental education" as a keyword, in the IraMuTeQ software, based on the use of the techniques of Textual Statistical Analysis, Descending Hierarchical Classification (DHC) and Similarity Analysis. To this end, qualitative and quantitative research approaches were combined, having as methodological procedures: bibliographic survey, bibliographic selection, data coding, analysis processing and generation of graphic representations. The application of the three techniques resulted in the elaboration of graphs and dendrograms capable of indicating a greater inclination to the trend of traditional environmental education, which impels us to the conception of new horizons correlated to geographical reading.
