Perception of the urban population and cocoon settlement on the socio-environmental impacts of the dump in the municipality of Apodi-RN

Abstract

The generation of solid waste demands attention, especially regarding management and final disposal. The municipality of Apodi currently has a landfill environment for the disposal of waste, contributing to the emergence and worsening of negative socio-environmental impacts. The objective of this research was to analyze the perception of the cocoon community and the urban population regarding the socio-environmental impacts of the landfill in the municipality of Apodi/RN. The methodology adopted was a qualitative-quantitative approach, descriptive and exploratory, with on-site field visits. Questionnaires were applied to the urban population, the residents of Assentamento Casulo and the representative of the municipal management, with open and closed questions. It was concluded that the Casulo Settlement faces socioenvironmental problems on a daily basis, as the population of the urban area feels affected by the smoke that invades the city for a long period of time. In general, the municipal public authorities are aware of the risks and severity of the problems they face with solid waste and open dumps. However, it is the responsibility of the municipal getão to carry out environmental awareness work, as well as the implementation of socio-environmental projects, such tools are essential for resolving this problem.
