Abstract

This paper seeks to present a few notes about the evolution of geographical thinking. Recent geography presents potent areas, although the trunk of knowledge is fragile due to the fragmentation of paradigms. By making use of the epistemological basis, we revisited items of knowledge listed since the first unifiers of Geography. To this end, we conducted bibliographical research with the objective of theoretically grounding the study in its articulation with the geographical knowledge that precedes the contemporary age. In this way, we went through itineraries based on the evolutionary bases of geographical thinking by also addressing trajectories involving Greek descriptors of epic narratives, such as Homer's Odyssey. As it transitioned between myths and realities, the period involved sailors and navigators from whom we identified significant and necessary stages for the future systematized knowledge. In this sense, it is pressing to take a philosophical look at geographical science and, thus, make it possible to inquire into the challenges of the integrated approach.
