Quality of the waters of the environmental protection area of Lagamar do Cauípe, Caucaia – Ce

Abstract

The analyzed geosystem is part of the Lagamar do Cauípe Environmental Protection Area, which has two main water bodies, the largest being the Lagamar itself and the second, located to the North and known as the lagoon or Barra do Cauípe; near the mouth of the homonymous river. They represent an Environmental Protection Area created by State Decree No. 24957 of June 1998 and as a Sustainable Use Unit in accordance with Law No. 9985 of 2000. The environmental protection area comprises a total of 1884.46 hectares, with its southernmost portions composed of crystalline basement inserted in the Borborema Province, covered by tertiary-quaternary sedimentary material in the northern portion, along the coastal strip, are coastal tables, beaches and dunes. For practical purposes, the water quality indices of this conservation unit were analyzed at four specific points along the protection area. The analysis of use and occupation was carried out through on-site visitation with the aid of digital geoprocessing using the software QGIS 3.16.16 for the production of cartographic parts; these being elaborated with the use of satellite images of the CBERS and LANDSAT constellations. The results indicate that there is a pressing need for state inspection action in the area of protection, ordering of uses and occupations due to the increase in the irregular deposition of solid waste, as well as due to the decline in the strength of the quality of the vegetation.
