The Northern Arc project in the Amazon and its relationship with agribusiness

Abstract

In the last decade, many developing countries have seen a significant increase in infrastructure investment, mainly through public, private, and public-private partnership investment. The Northern Arc Amazon Project (PANA), in the generalist (and not very critical) level, would correspond to contributions in the infrastructure sector, as a way to create new orientations, spatial organizations and modes of connectivity with the logistic production, mainly of port data in the Legal Amazon , with strong participation of the Brazilian State. The objective of the article is to critically reflect on PANA and its relationship with agribusiness, based on an analytical understanding and interpretation of the project as a "concrete totality" (procedural and empirical), based on the understanding of this enterprise as a "word", "investment” and “dispossession”. Thus, showing in an expanded, connected, complementary and dialectical way the meanings, in this case, the multiple interscalar, geopolitical and geoeconomic objectives and interests of the Northern Arc project.
