Space-time analysis in the acquisition of labor rights in the brazilian countryside

Abstract

This text aims to delve into the economic and socio-spatial metamorphoses that characterized the history of proletarianization in the Brazilian countryside starting in the 1930s, a period when the politicization of the rural workforce in the country began effectively (IANNI, 2012). This study unveils the space-time correlation of this process, highlighting the different rhythms of exploitation between urban and rural workers. It focuses on the unequal acquisition of rights and the absence of comprehensive labour legislation that equitably integrated the entire working class. By exploring the transformation of labour relations in the countryside, the text sheds light on factors that contributed to the disparity in the inclusion of rural workers in labour policies. The historical and spatial analysis reveals how public policies and economic structures shaped living and working conditions in the countryside, comparing them with urban realities. It examines the impact of labour legislation and agricultural modernization on rural life, highlighting the gaps and advances over the decades. This study contributes to a broader understanding of the dynamics of proletarianization in Brazil, offering a critical perspective on inclusion policies and the challenges faced by rural workers. Understanding these transformations is essential for discussing more just and inclusive public policies in the future.
