Analysis of the socio-environmental impacts resulting from the installation of new developments in the Angelim district of Teresina/PI

Abstract

The research conducted in the city of Teresina, PI has as the object of study transformations originated from the installation of new developments in the Angelim neighborhood during the pandemic of Covid-19. In addition, the general objective is to investigate the social and environmental impacts of implementing new ventures in the Angelim neighborhood, highlighting the role of agents who transform the space and landscape. Furthermore, we have specific objectives: a) to identify the enterprises installed in the Angelim neighborhood, in the pandemic period, from 2020 to 2022 and b) to describe the current scenario related to the socio-environmental impacts of the Angelim neighborhood due to the installation of industrial enterprises. It was used readings in books, scientific articles, master's theses, doctoral theses, and visits to specialized websites about the subject in question, having as guiding authors Lima (2002); Rodrigues (2007); Castro, Gomes, and Corrêa (2018) and Corrêa (1994). It concluded, therefore, that spatial transformations occurred originating from the installation in green areas of the neighborhood, with the following negative environmental impacts: inappropriate use of the soil, with the horizontalization and verticalization of buildings occurring in a disorderly manner; the removal of vegetation cover resulting from urban expansion and population growth and the expulsion and/or extinction of native animal species of the region.
