The dynamics of regional development: a study on the production of the agrarian space in the Legal Amazon

Abstract

This paper aims to analyze the dynamics of regional development in the Legal Amazon (AL) and its process of production of agrarian space. It was verified that the development process proposed for the region took place in the wake of the implementation of developmental policies from the middle of the 20th century. The objective of these policies was the integration of AL with the other regions of the country, the occupation of the demographic "vacuum", fiscal incentives for the entrance of economic groups to exploit the region economically, and the reduction of regional inequalities. In this sense, the study seeks to make a historical analysis of the National Development Plans, the National Policy for Regional Development, and its consequences for the reorganization of the agrarian space of this region. This study is based on a critical approach of qualitative nature, which, through an exploratory and descriptive analysis, sought in bibliographical sources, as well as in official documents, the theoretical support and the necessary data for the construction of this article. As a result to be better detailed in the development of this work, it is possible to affirm that the process of national integration for the economic development of AL was constituted at the expense of the exploitation of natural resources and social spoliation. It also adds the fact that even though the State created an effort to develop policies for the development of Latin America, they were insufficient to remedy the demographic gap, regional inequality, and agrarian and environmental problems in the region.
