Lithostratigraphic and geomorphological units of the Serra de Martins residual Plateau, RN, Brazil

Abstract

Studies on the characterization of elements of the country are important for the specific conformance of its components and, mainly, to understand its relationship with other elements and geographic areas. Accordingly, despite two technological and scientific advances, in the Semi-Arid region of Brazil, especially in the areas of Planaltos Residuais, this type of study on detailed scales is still being presented in an incipient and widely disseminated way. In this sense, considering that the geological and geomorphological formations are key elements for the understanding of the interpretation of the evolution of the countries, where the forms of relief are expressed, combined with climatic attitudes and past conditions on lithologies, this work presents a characteristic of the lithostratigraphic and geomorphological units of the Planalto Residual Serra de Martins, located in the state of Rio Grande do Norte. In this way, based on bibliographic research, documentaries, fieldwork, and use of geoprocessing techniques, foram characterized by 9 (nine) lithostratigraphic units, divided between Crystal Embankment, Sediment and Sediment Alluvial units, and 8 (oito) geomorphological units, divided between denudacionais and pleasant forms, delimited from lithology, hypsometry and local decline at a scale of 1: 125,000.
