Abstract

Urban river basins have become relevant spaces for the planning and management of cities, as the procedural dynamics inherent in the fluvial and interfluvial domains reflect in the daily lives of urban residents, especially when there are intense rain events, which trigger events of floods and overflows. In this theoretical and conceptual article, we sought to evaluate how urban use and occupation promotes changes in the surface dynamics of water flows, promoting floods and, especially, overflows when the intensification of the seasonal precipitation occurs, leading to the existence of geomorphological risk to inhabitants of fluvial plains and consequent search for control measures for such natural events, but enhanced by the urbanization process. Thus, the article in question seeks to contribute as a subsidy to projects and studies aimed at planning and management for the occupation of watershed areas that undergo an increasing urbanization process that potentiate flood events.
