Impacts on the creative process of folk art on Ilha do Ferro, Pão de Açúcar, Alagoas

Abstract

This study examines the production of popular art in the village of Ilha do Ferro, in the municipality of Pão de Açúcar, Alagoas, and aims to analyze the impacts on the creative process of the popular art produced there. The analysis is based on the concepts of productive process, creative process, and the creative chain of wooden art, seeking to highlight the transformations in local artistic practices. These concepts were employed by Costa (2019) and Lins (2023) in studies that discuss, directly or indirectly, the production of popular art in the community. The methodological approach involved a literature review supporting these concepts, participant observation, and the conduct of semi-structured interviews, aiming to understand the processes of transformation and appropriation of art through a materialist and dialectical analysis. The research findings indicate the incorporation of several technological tools into the artistic creation process, which is associated with the increase in commercialization and the reproduction of capital. Based on the evidence gathered regarding transformations in the creative process and in the creative chain of wooden art in Ilha do Ferro, this study also proposes conceptual definitions grounded in the empirical reality investigated.
