Detailed Geomorphological Mapping of the Serra dos Cavalos Structural Massif – PE and Its Surroundings

Abstract

The Serra dos Cavalos Structural Massif, located in the Borborema Province, presents a high degree of compartmentalization resulting from the articulation between lithostructural conditioning and geomorphological processes. This article presents a detailed geomorphological mapping of the massif and its surroundings, emphasizing the identification and classification of landforms according to genetic, morphometric, and morphostructural criteria. Through integrated analysis of satellite images, topographic data, fieldwork, and GIS techniques, it was possible to individualize morphogenetic units associated with denudational processes, such as pediments, residual massifs, inselbergs, summit surfaces, and steep slopes. The resulting mapping enabled the recognition of spatial patterns that reflect the structural influence on the configuration of the relief, as well as the geomorphological dynamics acting under semi-arid climatic conditions. The detailed scale adopted in the research allowed a more precise understanding of the relationships between topography, lithology, and erosive processes, providing a robust basis for interpreting the geomorphological evolution of the region. The results also contribute to environmental management and territorial planning, especially regarding the vulnerability of slopes and the use of flat or gently undulating areas. The work reinforces the importance of detailed geomorphological cartography in structurally complex and climatically sensitive terrains.
