Convivialities and ruralities in the Serra do Cavalo community in Água Branca, Alagoas

Abstract

This text emphasizes the rural aspects of the Serra do Cavalo community, located in the city of Água Branca, Alagoas. Since its geohistorical constitution, the community has been tied to nature and its phases, especially when considering the practice of family farming, which was the community main survival strategy for a long time. The rural aspects of Serra do Cavalo are evident in the knowledge and practices of local residents, that is, in their ways of being passed down from generation to generation, which maintain the identity of the place. In this scenario, working on the farm, especially planting temporary crops, such as cassava, corn, and beans, indicates a direct connection between the residents and the land and the cycles of nature, which becomes known through their experiences. These practices reinforce the values, culture, and beliefs that persist over the years. Serra do Cavalo has a history that was and is made up of men and women, workers, students, young people, the elderly, children, by signs, by symbols, by beliefs, by culture, by politics, and by social interactions. In this sense, the ruralities and convivialities in the community were captured and perceived in the ways of planting and harvesting, in the application of ancient practices with the management and care of the land.
