ABSTRACT
The role of the Architecture and Urbanism professional has proven to be essential for the proper functioning of socio-spatial relations and the development of contemporary cities. Their role as a producer of spaces and an inducer of relationships is conditioned by their proper training and technical potential. Thus, the quality of education in Architecture and Urbanism schools is brought into focus, aiming to discuss the learning dynamics in the field of urbanism. This research is an experience report, whose objective is to present the teaching-learning practices adopted in the Estudos da Cidade (City Studies) course within the Architecture and Urbanism program at the Universidade Estadual de Maringá (UEM). The study followed a descriptive qualitative approach, presenting, through an experience report, the results obtained from the pedagogical practice in the theoretical teaching of urbanism within the Estudos da Cidade course, a mandatory curricular component of the undergraduate Architecture and Urbanism program at UEM. After conducting the research, it was found that the assessment format proposed by the course syllabus hinders active classroom dynamics. The requirement for isolated and theoretical assessments inhibits the continuous evaluation process, making it difficult to track students' progress concerning the covered content. Additionally, the number of students in the class (39) and the weekly class hours (2 hours per week) make individualized work and the application of theoretical knowledge to real-world situations more challenging.
