Agroecological and Organic Farming Experiences in the Immediate Region of Cornélio Procópio-Bandeirantes/PR

Abstract

In light of the need to establish planting systems aligned with current socio-environmental concerns, agroecological and organic farming models emerge as viable alternatives. Based on this premise, the objective of this study is to survey the organic and agroecological farming practices that exist in the immediate region of Cornélio Procópio-Bandeirantes, located in the state of Paraná. To achieve this, the methodological procedures adopted in this research included a literature review on the topics; secondary data collection from government agencies; and fieldwork in the municipality of Uraí/PR. From this, it was observed that, despite being a region strongly influenced by intensive agriculture—focused on the production of commodities and monocultures—there is a significant portion of small and medium-sized producers striving to base their production systems on models that consider the preservation of agroecosystems and take socio-environmental issues into account. Among the surveyed municipalities, Uraí/PR had the highest number of certified organic producers, and this information made it possible to understand both the potential and vulnerabilities of the production process.
