Event tourism: an economic alternative for small municipalities

Abstract

Event tourism presents itself in the context of the world's geographic space as an economic segment of expressive dynamics, objectively interfering in the production of space where it will occur, regardless of the spatial dimension of the place. It is this understanding that anchors the discussion presented in the text that follows, which aims to discuss the importance of the truism of events for the dynamics of small towns. The empirical reference under analysis is the inter-municipal fair of education, culture, tourism and business – FINECAP, which takes place annually in the city of Pau dos Ferros in Rio Grande do Norte. In addition to the bibliographic research, which supported the theoretical understanding of the issue at hand, we resorted to documental research that authenticates the realization of the event under discussion, associated with empirical research, supported by interviews and structured observations associated with the experiences of those who live the event itself. The research paths listed allowed us to infer that event tourism assumes great importance for the dynamics of places regardless of their size, constituting an important factor in the production of space.
