The bases for territorialization of SUS and the role reserved to Sobral in COVID-19 times

Abstract

At a time when the world is experiencing the drama of the COVID-19 pandemic, the relevance of the Public Health System, which has shown itself to be the most efficient way to fight the virus and care for victims, is revealed. In Brazil, many of the critics of the Unified Health System (SUS) model become defenders of it. In this context, our reflection aims to analyze the bases that refer to the distribution of health services across the territory and how this distribution has been taking shape in the regional space commanded by Sobral, a city located in the northwest of Ceará in the northeast of Brazil and which together with four more poles form the five health macro-regions of Ceará. The analyzes carried out from Sobral allow us to infer that the territorialization of SUS, even with some absences, has been fundamental in combating the spread of the new Coronavirus and helping patients, the relevance occurring from the Family Health Centers (CSF) to the Centers of greater complexity, such as Sobral, which also has municipal public management but austere in tackling the pandemic.
